Rane - 4 year old female Semi Long-Haired Tabby and White Cat

I’m Rane, I’m a 4 year old, Semi Long-Haired tabby and white female. I found myself at the Mayhew some time ago after I was discovered as a stray by the RSPCA; they brought me here to help me find a new home.  I was in a lot of pain when I was found due to my collar getting caught around my legs but I’m doing well now.

I like to give the impression that I’m a bit of a loner and it’s true that I’m happy in my own company, but I recently spent time on foster care with a quiet, laid back couple and – just between you and me – I enjoyed the experience! They knew how to approach me – nice and calmly – and soon found out that I can’t resist a little stoke on the forehead.

Before I knew it, I’d forgotten all about my wariness of humans and found myself sleeping on their bed, investigating the place and generally feeling very much at home. I’d love to find myself another nice and peaceful household to live in, one without any children or other animals, as I like to be friends with others but only on my own terms.

I’ve got special needs compared to other cats as I’m FIV positive. This doesn’t mean that I’m sick all the time, I’m just a little more vulnerable to infection than my fellow felines. I would like a new home where I can go outside but would also be happy with a patio or roof terrace.

Cheeky and Tufty - 10 year old female Domestic Short-Haired Tabby Cats

Hi, I’m Cheeky and this is my sister, Tufty. We’re both feeling a little sad right now, since our owner recently died and we were brought to the Mayhew to help find us a new home. We’re just glad we still have each other. At 10 years old, we like to spend most of our time relaxing and sleeping. We’re a friendly pair and we love the company of humans.

(Cheeky pictured left - Tufty pictured right)

My sister is really sweet, but she’s very nervous. When she meets someone new she shies away and meows with a trembling little voice – even if she knows I’m around to protect her! It takes her no time at all to come round, though, when coaxed with a gentle stroke under the chin.

I, on the other hand, will happily let you approach and offer up some loving, and if I’m really enjoying it I’ll even venture out of my bed to show you plenty of love back! Since being at the Mayhew I’ve been given special food, which helps my liver, and we’ve both been to the dentist, which we didn’t like at all!

We’re simple and gentle felines who love nothing more than to cosy up in a warm spot and while away the hours. We’d make a very calming and warm addition to a quiet and peaceful household. We’re used to having a garden, but don’t use it often so a small outdoor space would be fine for us.

Alice - 13 year old female Domestic Short-Haired Tortoiseshell Cat

Alice is a sweet but shy 13 year old female who came to the Mayhew as a stray. She’s a subdued feline who can be introverted at first, but is friendly towards people once she knows them and with strangers if approached gently. Because she was a stray, when she first came to the Mayhew she was a little weak and unsteady on her feet but is doing well.

Alice is in good health although she does have a heart-murmur but seems to cope with it well and does not require medical treatment for it. Due to her reserved nature she’ll require a nice and quiet household where she can spend her days relaxing and receive some gentle care and affection.

Tinks - 3 1/2 year old female Domestic Short-Haired Tortoiseshell Cat

Tinks is a 3 1/2 year old female with a very versatile personality. She’s a vocal cat who absolutely loves attention and literally throws herself around to receive it! She does however, sometimes get carried away with the moment and can swipe with the excitement; it’s usually a bat of the paw rather than claws, but she can catch you by surprise!

She’s an energetic cat with a very playful personality who loves to stalk and chase a toy; she’ll require an equally energetic owner, but also one who can keep her excitement under control! Tinks has been known to display a bit of hissing and growling, and was brought to the Mayhew by her previous owner because she was afraid of the family’s new baby, so she’ll need to be re-homed in an environment without any young children.

Despite living with both cats and dogs in her previous home, she has shown a great disliking to them and would therefore need to be re-homed to a home without existing pets.

Smokey

Smokey is a 3 year old female with a beautiful smokey grey coat and emerald eyes. She came to the Mayhew because unfortunately, her owner was made homeless. Smokey is very wary of people and as a result can show signs of aggression.mayhew_smokey.jpg

She can be unpredictable and although she does seem curious around humans, this can sometimes turn into fear and she may lash out. She has however, shown great improvement since she’s been with us and can be very affectionate on her own terms. Smokey is going to need a calm environment and a very patient owner who is willing to work with her and help her learn to trust people.

Aimee

Beautiful and delicate, little Aimee is a 14 year old blue point Balinese. Aimee is now sadly blind in one eye and has little sight in her other eye. Aimee needs a caring mature owner to help her with this new disability. She is very sweet and gentle and a little shy when you first approach, which is undoubtedly due to her lack of sight. Once she has familiarised herself with you she is very affectionate and vocal.

mayhew_aimee.jpg

In her previous home Aimee lived with other cats, although Aimee was known to be rather bossy towards the other cats. Since becoming blind and, therefore, being more vulnerable and cautious, we feel Aimee would be better going to a single-cat household. Aimee would need to go to a new home where someone will be around for the majority of the day to keep her company.

Busea

Busea is a beautiful dark tabby female who came to the Home, along with her kittens, as her previous owner was unable to cope. Busea loves chasing toys but she is not really a lap cat or a cat that demands much attention. She is independent and likes the occasional stroke on her head but only on her own terms.

mayhew_busea.JPG

Busea loved to be out and about in her previous home and will, therefore, need to go to a home where she has constant access to the outdoors where she can come and go as she pleases. Busea wouldn’t be suitable in a family environment but would be best suited to someone who can appreciate and respect her independence.

Busea is becoming more and more affectionate and demanding of attention, although she can be tempremental at times, she is proving to be a very loving cat. Busea has shown a great disliking towards other cats therefore would need to go to a home without any existing cats and where there are few/no neighbouring cats.

Bella

Bella is a very shy 2 1/2 year old calico female, who was sadly returned to The Mayhew after the owner was unable to cope. Bella was adopted as a young feral kitten and although she has never shown signs of aggression she is still very nervous of human contact and will therefore need a patient individual who can give her the time and patience she needs.

mayhew_bella.jpg

When she is startled or something in particular has scared her she has a habit of toileting, so her new owners will need to be prepared to work through this issue with her. Bella has lived with other cats in the past and often relied on them for confidence. Therefore, ideally, she will go to a new home with existing cats.

Sabina

Sabina is a beautiful black and white semi-long-haired 7 year old female whose owner wasn’t able to cope with her and therefore brought her to The Mayhew.

mayhew_sabina.jpg

Sabina is a very friendly feline who loves attention … especially when there is food around. However, this is on her own terms and she can be temperamental at times. Sabrina would need to go to an adult home where her independent nature can be appreciated.

Tuppence

Tuppence is a beautiful tabby and white female who was originally brought to The Mayhew on the understanding that she was feral and would therefore be neutered and returned to her original surroundings.

mayhew_tuppence.jpg

Since her arrival it has become clear that she is not feral, but understandably scared. Despite this, she is slowly settling into her new environment and gaining confidence.

Although Tuppence is nervous when first approached, she responds well in a quiet environment and enjoys being stroked and made a fuss of. She will therefore need a quiet environment where she can get the TLC she needs.
